As Mads said,

The Germans did, in fact use grommets - one per side on the M38 officer "new type" field cap that Mads posted, and one per side on tropical visored field caps. The Luftwaffe Fliegermuetze side caps, however (regardless of whether EM or Officer) did NOT have grommets, nor did the Waffen-SS Schiffchen (enlisted or officer)
