Luftwaffe Pack - What is This Thing?

I saw this on German eBay and passed on it. It ended up going for about 4o Euro.

What is it? It was coming from Austria so I thought it to be post war Austrian.

    Thanks,

    Brad

      Congratulations to the winner!

This is the so-called late "artillery backpack" (Rucksack für Artillerie-Personal). The 2 leather-straps are meant to hold the rolled-up "Zeltbahn".

Normally they are found in olive colour - the blue-grey Luftwaffe example is quite rare.

The green ones go for app. 100,-EUR.

          Hello,
this Rucksack is a variant of an early one (with carrying straps) introduced in 1940 for non mounted troops of artillery branch of service. This one without carrying straps was widely issued to all troops wearing Y-straps late war. It especially replaced A-frames in the infantry. The two external straps are used to maintain the Zeltbahn. Maybe produced for the ground troops of the Luftwaffe
          ciao!

              Brad,

I have the same ruck in my collection and its from eBay. I think I paid $65.00 as it was listed with a "buy now".

Its a little dry and the leather is a bit rough but its not all that common so I went for it.

              Here are some photos.
