    L.B.A. vs L.B.A.(S.) markings

Hi all, I have a question. What is the difference between L.B.A. and L.B.A.(S.) stampings in leather Luft gear?

The S means it came out of the Stuttgart depot

I think Stettin is "St". The largest cities are single letters and always thought "S" was Stuttgart.

Has anyone ever encountered a L.B.A.F. marking in Luftwaffe clothing?

Gene, I'm glad that it's you who answered it. I had listed this Y strap last year, and you had made a comment that it should be discussed. It is stamped LBA(S) and also with RB#. It never was dicussed, that I'm aware of, and of course no sale was made. I've since been happy with using it as a display piece in my collection, but this piece is what inspired my question...What was the issue that you had?

I'm not comfy with the LBA(S) stamp itself. I have two Luftwaffe Y straps, both LBA marked, and the lettering used is very thin, like you'd find on a helmet chinstrap, bayonet frog, etc.

Thanks Gene. I do feel somewhat okay with the L.B.A.(S.) with periods, is done in the same way as Bill's LBAS stamp. Do other consrtruction methods and stitching look proper? I can say for certian, that these have "the correct" type age...(except for thr rear belt cover flap. oddly enough, it didn't age consistantly, I wonder if somebody has added that piece along the way)...Has anybody seen that look before?

They are very reminiscent of the fake Y straps I saw Norbert Grätz selling. The stamps that are on my Y straps are very thin, almost as if they were done with a razor blade (though I know they weren't, just making a reference to how thin the lettering is)

I have a pair of pre war Luftwaffe Y-straps made of thin, chocolate leather and with aluminium hardware, back strap marked "L.B.A.B 38" - markings are hollow stamped in to the leather. Just my 4 cents.

That is a very nice Y strap, and I cannot fault that stamp. But the stamp on Johann's is not the same lettering as yours (which I cannot fault), and I still am not comfy with that particular example.
