Gefreiter 4 Pocket Tunic for Review

    Hello,
So I was thinking to get some cloth to display my LW badges on ????
I found this nice looking Gefreiter 4 pockets tunic and I wanted to make sure if everything is fine with it?

It looks fine to me, but always better to make sure as I'm a beginner, especially about the insignia being period applied as it's sometimes quite tricky.

Also does anyone have the idea what badges would be the best match for the tunic given the rank (Gefreiter) and the unit stamps inside?
I was thinking to display para or ROAG badge on it but not sure if any of these badges would be a good match.

Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks for your input as always !

    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

The brest eagle seems reapplied. As well, 3 loops is probably a bit much for a Gefreiter?
Do you any close-up of the loops?
Any pictures from the back of the collar?

Very fine tunic Martin. The sewing of the eagle may well be original, but if you are being faithful to the markings a para badge is not an option.

3 pair of loops, why not ?
Flight badge, sport badge, HJ badge, like Gau Sieger..
Also have seen DRL and SA-sport badge next to eachother, no action, but still 3 badges this way..
Stamp seems for a Jagd Gruppe, so most probably pilot badge IMO.

Thanks for the comments So do you guys think the eagle is originally applied?

I'm thinking to go with flight badge DRL and black wound badge. Would it be too much for a Gefreiter haha?

Also, is ROAG suitable instead of flight badge on such uniform?

Thanks for sharing the knowledge with me

Tunic is stamped Jagd Gruppe IMO, those were mainly Flugzeugfuehrer, but you can put anything on it if you want, it's yours ..

Thanks for making that clear Jos
I will go with flight badge then as I want to make it as correct with the stamping as possible
Does the eagle look period applied to you? I always don't know what to look for when it comes to the insignia attached on tunics.

Unless it has something to do with Jagd Bomber, maybe you can find something about the unit..?

I actually tried doing some research based on the stamp
Correct me if I'm wrong but I would say this is this unit ?
Here is a link to Wikipedia : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zerstörergeschwader_1
It says there " It was then renamed to I. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 333(JG 333—333th Fighter Wing) on 1 November 1938 which was then briefly given the designation I. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 54 (JG 54—54th Fighter Wing) on 1 May 1939. During this creation process, the Gruppe was commanded by Major Rudolf Stoltenhoff, who turned over command to Major Hellmut Reichard on 15 May 1939.[3]"
So would I be correct to assume that it was a part of this unit?

Perhaps these macro photos will help. I see nothing amiss. I can share some context about this item with the buyer.

Looks to be a nice tunic to me - I could argue both ways on the eagle, but I would lean toward reapplied, which is no sin in my book - they were required by the ACC to remove them after the war, after all.

Breast Eagles were usually hand sewn on these prewar tunics. Would need a closer inspection to have a better opinion on whether the eagle was reapplied or not. And certainly there’s nothing wrong with three sets of loops.
