Who trained in Flieger Ausbildungs Regimente?

What sort of airforce personnel would have worn an ID tag for a Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment, and have done their training in such a unit. Were these units reserved for the basic training of pilots and ground personnel as the word "Flieger" implies? Or could any and all other LW personnel such as flak, etc, do their basic training in such a unit?

    Thanks

There were several for pilot training. I have a stoneware mug for an unteroffizier from this one dated 1939:

On 1st April 1939 FEA 13 was designated Fliegerausbildungs-Regiment (Pilot Training Regiment) 13 (FAR 13) and on 16th November the FAR 13 and the FAR 13 School transferred to new locations in Pilsen (Czechoslovakia) and Rokycany (East of Pilsen)

Were other LW personnel other than pilots also trained in such units?

Apparently all for pilot training. Most used to form Luftwaffe field divisions in 1942.

In your link the word pilot does not show up, so why only pilots?
Here it states "for all LW soldiers", but this also doesnt sound correct: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...Ausbildung.htm

              ..

After induction into the Luftwaffe all young recruits including officer candidates and ground personnel were sent to an FEA (Fliegerersatzabteilung), later FAR (Flieger-Ausbildungsregiment), for basic training in military discipline and physical training lasting approx. 6-12 months. The only air aspect to be introduced would be in the form of lectures on radio and map reading.

On passing out from FAR, those recruits deemed to be suitable for flying training would be sent to a pool known as a Flugwaerterkompanie for about 2 months where the studied general aeronautical subjects. Officer candidates would be sent to a Luftkriegschule (LKS).

Thanks for your detailed response. What do you mean by all young recruits? Just future pilots and ground personnel, or also recruits for other branches of the LW?

                  ..

                  Hi Jean-Loup

It would be for all branches of the Luftwaffe. Easiest way to think of it is it was basic training.

In that case why do all LW personnel not have ID tags to Flieger Ausbildung units?

                      ..

I should clarify my statement not all LW personal went through FAA but some individuals who went on to grounds did pass through these units.

Do you know exactly who was in theory at least adressed to these units? What do you mean by "went on to grounds"?

Most LW personnel including Fallschirmjager went first to a Flieger Ausbildungs Regiment for basic training.

My father volunteered as Fallschirmjager in August 1941 - he first was sent to 5.Ausbildungs-Kompanie Flieger Regiment 31
                          His first dog-tag was: -874- 5.A.Flg.Ausb.Rgt.31

After after he completed the combat engineer and parachute training in May 1942, he got a new coded dog-tag: 62784/313

Just to add I have a number of groups to Fallschirmjäger, LW Felddivision soldiers as well as soldiers who served in the Hermann Göring Division. All went through FAA.

OK thanks guys, so clearly they were not reserved for aircrew and airport personnel.
