True- I, too, looked for comparable reference tabs in this section and there were quite a few very minty tabs shown in threads that are judged as legit or even as reference tabs. Same to be found with medals, buckles, helmets... Is it lucky storage (taylor´s storage box, some dry enclosed surroundings, from production straight into storage...) Hard to tell, but if there are no red flags it may be a possible explanation why some old things can look so fresh, whereas most don´t and many are in a relic state.

I thought I´ve read the term duckskin sometime but as you ask, I fear I got that wrong.
