I had seven at one time four with screen vents , folded insignia and maker marked . The other three were all like yours , flat sewn insignia , grommet vents and rbnr. numbers all .....of course all sized. Every one of them had the chinstrap with suede out hatched Side in . They looked like all were taken from storage

Thanks gentlemen. Dennis, have had quite a few of these but have downsided to my favorites, which are this one and early examples.

Side view. Helped a friend authentic this one at the SOS years ago. Told him if he tired of it then I would take it off his hands. Have had it now much longer than he did. Especially liked it because it is a size 59 and thus fits my mannequins.

A style thing , to better match the colour of the cap.

They don’t always Jos, sometimes they are found with the black finished side out. And sometimes seen this way in period photos. But yes, the natural side is a better match to the tropical uniform.

So what changed on these John you mentioned early examples. Was it the type of insignia or the way it was sewn or did the grommits change ?

Very nice Gustav! Once had a similar example but not quite as nice.

Lenny, will shoot a few photos later and show them. Gustav has excellent examples as well. The early examples are different in many ways.
