Being offered an 88mm shell and head.. No clue

    Hey folks,

I was buying some things at a collector's house and he said he would sell this.

No idea what the value is?

Im sure I will go back so what should I look for and photo?

    thanks for any info.

Well its 88mm HE Shell, for either a Flak gin or a Tiger 1. If the paint look original, hard to tell from the photos, definitely buy it. Going rate is $500 up to over $1K. Fuse looks correct, although there are near perfect repros out there. If your into shells buy it, if your not buy it anyway and I will take it off your hands! Serious offer if your not into those...

Aren't Tiger cases marked KwK on the headstamp? Would have said this is for the 88 AA gun. Nice shell all the same, if you can get it for the right price.

88 x 570R cartridge cases were the same for both guns, but the ammunition was not interchangeable........because FlaK.18/36 ammunition used percussion primer C/12 and Kw.K.36 ammunition used electrical primer C/22.

Primers can be easily changed so you can change it to suit what you want it be be.

Unless it has the original stencil on the basestamp and that also matches over the primer you can never tell what's it was last used for. Besides cases where reused so it could have been both. Without time travel you will just never know.

It is a nice brass case which is harder to find than the more common steel.

All German 6347 88mm cases were marked FLAK on the bottom. None were marked KWK for tanks. The only way to tell a tank round is ink stamp on the case side and electric primer.

All but the projectile made it through customs on the one I have...had....🧐

I guess they were worried I may drop it on someone’s toes so they kept it in the interest of public safety. [emoji848]

The PaK40 came through no problem. I guess it was not deemed a hazard.
