    I wonder how the EOD guys determined that the shell was live? Perhaps they conclusively identified it, then weighed it to compare the current weight to the weight of the live round as reported in period ordnance materials? I understand that a "live" vs. "empty" weight comparison is the most common method employed by EOD.


    Also, I see that the driving band is missing . . . which seems to be common for fired rounds. Alternatively, perhaps someone pried the driving band off of it for some unknown reason?


    Anyone able to ID the projectile from the news report photo? It is a nice looking projectile . . . in inert form, it would have made a nice display item for a collector.

      It seems to be a French projectile " Obus de 155 mm explosif modèle 1890 "
