M-24, D+2 Pick Up

For your enjoyment,
A very fine condition M-24 received just after D-Day by a Navy Beach Master. As the story was told to me this M-24 was gifted to the Beach Master by a grateful Infantry Officer on D-Day +2. This is the first time it has seen the light of day since it was sent home in 1944.

I would welcome any comments.

The inside of the can still has the paper wrapping the filler was wrapped in, this will have trace elements of the filler embedded on it, if you are carful run a scalpel up it then carefully remove it , clean it with acetone then refit it inside, these are always never in the cans when they're are cleaned they're removed,

What is the point of following this procedure?

The point is,,,,, at this time there is residue left on the paper of the H/E that was wrapped in this paper, this will cause issues if the can is tested at some point, perhaps if shipped overseas or just an inspection from authorities!

When these are emptied the inside of the can is TOTALLY cleaned and rinsed with acetone to ensure that no trace elements of H/E are present.

It only take a small amount to show up on a scan, then the authorities can legally seize your entire collection and have it destroyed, because on one small error.

Cleaning with acetone

Be very careful while using acetone to clean the inside Do not let the acetone come in contact with the original paint on the outside as it will damage it
