    Stencils on Large Shells

    Hey guys...

    Question...

I have seen a lot of the captured 88mm shells with the captured black Finnish stenciling (easily to ID based on the font and writing)...but...did the Germans ever use similar stampings?

    Yep,

germas had stencils or stampings on both shells and cases:

I guess I ask because though I have seen them on the base, I rarely, if ever see them on the sides.

I have a large calibre 10.5cm shell, but the stamps run vertically (you have to turn the shell on the side to read them). I assume those are post-war?

            This is what I mean.

I am assuming post-war...annnnnnnnnnnd...I assume that removing them will not devalue?

You might be right...because I have never seen that king of stamping on a round in original condition. About value...if you are a WWII collector I imagine it won't...but if you are a post war ammo collector, it might, not sure
