Picked up this item and will call it a grenade. No visible markings. The outside is painted with a rough textured paint. There is a small screw hole at the base and the top screws off and it looks like aluminum. Around the middle is a canvas cloth band that is buckled in place. Any help in identifying it or the manufacturer or country would be helpful. Thanks!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure your piece is a second pattern Humphries grenade, a WWI period British experimental. I think the first pattern had a clamshell cover with spring loaded pins that pushed the cover halves out when thrown and activated the fuze.
The No. 2 version had the cloth safety tape around the center and was deemed the superior design. It was the predecessor to the No. 247 all-ways fuze used in the WWII No. 69 grenade and several others. Great piece.
