HELP, What is it????

Hi All,

Saw this grenade on display at our Army museum in Waiuru. Under
a display of WWII items. Never seen one before, any ideas??

Never seen it before but it looks like some kind of smoke or training grenade, IMHO.

It is not WWII, it is a variation of a WWI German stick grenade. It was called the "Wilhelm" and was the model 1916 grenade head, it was a percussion grenade. There is a steel ball in there and when you threw it the door flipped off the ball fell out and armed it. They are rare to find. That one looks to be shown with a trainer head on it (but should be painted red)
