    8cm S.Gr.W.34 firing device

    Hello gents.

Have any of you seen a war time pictures of this device in use? I just bought one on eBay and wonder whats the purpose of it. I guess it is for firing the mortar from a distance, but why?
I guess you will have to "reload it" manually for every grenade any way..

Could it be to use the mortar as a boobytrap with a trip wire?

Could be, but then the mortar round would leave the mortar and go of somewhere else..

Do anyone of you have the 8cm S.Gr.W.34 instruction manuel (where the picture above is taken from)? I´m sure it must be some kind of explanation there…

(By the way, I´ve stolen the pictures from a web site. Hope the owner don't mind..).

      Anyone?

        Firing device

        Hi,
By coincidence I have just seen a World at War documentary, and on the introduction it showed America troops using a similar device on their mortar and triggered by a long string.
        Not much help but interesting.
        Cheers
        Russell

          Thanks Russell.

Did you see if they fired it from a shelter ore a bunker?

Its a nice and probably rare piece of accessory but I´ve never seen it in use, even if the German 8cm was in use by the Norwegian army for many years after WWII.

Guess I´ll have to start looking for the old German manual.

In the HDv 104 Teuil I und II "Die Ausbilfung am s.Gr.Werfer 34 (81 mm)" from 1940 is nothing mentioned.

The pic may be from the "Waffen Revue"?

                  Hi,

Does anyone have a spare lanyard for the 8cm accessory depicted in #1?

I've been told that this lanyard may also have been used on artillery pieces.

                  Here's hoping!

                  Thanks,

                  Grossfuss
