    Help identify this shell please

    Hi there,

I am not an ordnance collector but saw this in a local collectors shop in amongst a box full of cap badges. Obviously the waffenampt stamp (WaA354) indicates a German WW2 item. Is the H40 an indicator of its date, i.e. 1940?
It measures approx 8" in total. It appears to be chrome plated. It seems to be made of steel rather than brass.

I'd be most grateful if anyone can tell me what it is, the maker, approx value and any other snippets of information.

It's a 20x138b drill round. The ammo would be used with the Flak/Kwk/C 30/38 gun in it's several versions. This drill round was produced for the German Army, as it shows a H 40 (Heer 1940) stamp and an Army Waffenamt.

Thank you very much Carles. So if it's a drill round, it should be totally safe?
What would be a fair price to offer for it please and is it unusual / uncommon?

      Regards,

      Kevin.

Yep, totally safe, just make sure it doesn't fall on your foot Value...I don't really know. It is not the kind of round regular collectors really want but not so common either. If in nice condition, war rounds would be between 40 and 80€, depending on how rare they are, but drill rounds...?

Thanks again Carles. I'm unlikely to get into collecting this type of thing. Just found this one in unlikely circumstances and thought it would be an interesting "talking point". Anyway, it cost me £12, so no harm done (unless, as you say, it drops on my foot!)
          Kind regards,
          Kevin.
