According to a Spanish language site, the Germans on the Northern Russian front found themselves without egg grenades. They did have supplies of the blue, 4.5 second BZ 40 fuses. They took M31 canteens, filled them with explosive material and added the BZ 40 fuses to the caps. Apparently they were called "ice grenades". I did this through Google translate, so it may not be 100% accurate.
