    88mm shell Finnish!

Good afternoon, bought this shell at Beltring a few years back, what is the story behind theses? Obivously of German origin, captured by the Russians then supplied to the Finnsish army or captured wartime by the Finns. Lots of markings needless to say, 88 8cm + flak 18 on the base. When I had it apart I found that the timer fuse was of Russian make. Would the case have been the same colour green as the steel Mauser 7.92 cartridges or is the grey finnish a postwar colour? Might take it to this weekends Stoneleigh show and maybe sell it. Thanking you in advance.Regards David.

Gray cases are sandblasted postwar by Finnish army to keep them in good condition at depots.

Gray matt color comes from sandblasted metal, nothing else. These were sandblasted and laquered.Gray color has nothing to do with russians.

These cases are german originals,as is the projectiles also.I know this becouse i work in company who made this job many many years ago.

There is also 10,5 and 15cm artillery cases made same depot rework and 7,5cm Pak40 cases.

Mine has the yellow wash on the projectile and the gray case. Mine came from Norway back in the 1990's.

Thanks much. It's a 7.5cm anti tank round. The metal transport canister for it is center shot. The spacer and wooden donut for it is lower right.
