8cm GR W34 mortar round restoration info needed

    Hi Guys,

I'm a new member on here, I might know a couple of you from Gunboards, I've been on there for 6 years under the same name I have here.

I recently picked up a WWII German 80mm mortar round from Poland and am seeking info from those who have done restoration work on these.

My round had no paint left so I wire wheeled it and need to know what paint to use on it. Looking at others I've seen on the net, it looks like a medium burgundy paint, some form of oxide red paint.

Also need to know about the black lettering that my round would have had.

There are some numbers stamped into mine, such as 13 Ab 8 44 eyc 288 the tail section has B kpy 55 no visible waffen ampts.

I would also like to replicate the donut charges and the primer cartridges. On the primer cartridges I have found that a 12 guage shotgun brass base will work and will scrounge up some thick walled cardboard tubing for the charge body.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

    Thanks, Matt

The body of yours was manufactured by Buderusche Eisenwerke in Wetzlar (the same company that made the V1) and the tail by Heinrich Jungeblodt Metallwarenfabrik in Lippstadt.

Yes the base color is that German red oxide that you see often on Jerry gear, like the undercoat on my 'schreck. You see green ones also. The markings are in black and are three parts. The top is the manufacturer stamp and manufacture date. Then there's a group of vertical bars and then the top line repeated.

      Hi there,

      Thanks for the info,

Is there any brand of red oxide that close to the original German red oxide paint?
