    Mystery object

I am totally guessing if this is the correct forum. This object was found in a cave on a Pacific battlefield. It is brass, with a stainless steel pierced tip. It looks like a primer is on the side, where the swing-arm can hit it. No markings that I can find.

It does indeed look like a pull firing device. Are you sure that the side with the hook and the indent aren't designed to hold a tensioning spring? That would act against the other side where you could see the bait wire being attached. I wonder what you have on the inside of it. I doubt a primer. All the ones of these I have seen had a spring inside to drive the "firing pin". Japanese used to fit a 500 pound bomb with an instantaneous fuse on them and then bolt these to the top and use them as IED's. Lovely.

Mind you, better than option B. I had a relative who fought in Burma at the end of the war and he said they had a day outside Meiktila where they discovered Japanese sitting in holes covered with brush with no weapon except for an aircraft bomb and a rock. His company commander walked from hole to hole shooting them in the head.
