Show Me Your 88 Rounds!

Here is my Tiger round which came with the original wooden carrying case. The wood case has faint markings and painted yellow on both ends (very faint) indicating a high explosive round and interior paper tag..

The fuse is eagle M marked.

That is a beautiful 8,8cm Kw.K 43 round Glenn- I've never seen one with a yellow finish before. Any chance of a nice, clear close-up? I'd love to see it.

Oh, and the fuze is a Kriegsmarine type- probably just added to the shell after it was made inert. It should have an AZ23 or AZ23/28 (as indicated by the paper tag on the crate.

Here are my 8,8cm rounds:



8,8cm Gr. 39 Hl., 8,8cm Pzgr. 39/1, 8,8cm Sprgr. L/4,5 Stg (cast steel).

The Gr. 39. Hl, to my knowledge, was only used by the Tiger's 8,8cm Kw.K 36 L/56.



Here are all of them- including my 8,8cm Pzgr. 39/1 Patr Kw.K. 43- I'm told that was actually recovered from inside the turret of a Königstiger wreck at a former heavy vehicle repair facility in the Ukraine- it was in about 8" of water, hence it's corroded condition and the staining part way up the base of the case.

The second to last case, the one with the Pzgr. 39 in it, is the most interesting of all- it's an ACTUALLY MARKED Kw.K. 36 case:

What makes you believe this is a Tiger round Eric?

Well I have seen these go for as little as $250 and all the way up to $600. It just depends on how bad you want one. If you look for awhile you should be able to find one on the cheaper side. Good Luck!

I've seen the for sale at Beltring in the UK (no help to you guys in the US I know, but for info anyway).

They were going for around £100.

I also have a flak 88mm.

Ah, okay, I had expected that was the reason- the problem is that with a case that's in nice condition, the presence of a C/22 primer doesn't mean anything- they're not hard to get and could have been put in there at any time. Only if it's a mid-war case with a C/22 primer corroded in place can one actually be sure it's a Tiger round. Otherwise, given how many millions and millions more Flak rounds were made, the probability is that pretty much every 6347-cased 8,8cm round one might come across is a Flak round. Unless, of course, the case is actually marked '8,8cm Kw.K. 36' that is. I sure wish there was at least one other physical feature that distinguised a Kw.K. 36 round from a Flak 18 round...
