It is important to know the dimensions of the tube to be able to relate it to the caliber of the round. I would say a large caliber 105mm or so. Price is very relative, not depending always on the state of the can but on the collectability, as I don't collect other than Kwk40, for me it is not worth much.

I can only say that the Kwk 40 cans measure about 82 x 12 aprox, so for sure your's is a larger caliber. If you wet it you might be able to read some of the inscriptions.

It is protective canister for either:
Main cartouche(powder charge with casing) for 17cm Kanone 18
            or
Vor cartouche(addon/frontal powder pouch) for 17cm Kanone 18

Color is typical Heer.I dont know did the Luftwaffe use 17cm field guns too?

            I recommend getting german manual:
D 435/1 Handbuch Die Munition der Deutschen Geschutze und Werfer

This manual shows all canisters/boxes for all field guns/mortars.And this manual is possible to find from internet as a PDF-file.
