8.8 FLAK 41 Shell, Fuze and Casing

8.8 FLAK 41 Round, 1943 Fuze and 1944 Yellow Round...I assume this is a regular 88 flak gun round, but let me know if it's something else. Thanks, Ed

Nice FLAK projectile. I have one myself. How have you been. Will drop by on my next visit to FT Bragg.

The yellow round is a regular Flak 18 round. Not for the Flak 41.

              Regular 8,8cm Flak 18 round.

Visible markings(machine tooth marks which came when machine were used to pull projectiles off casings) show it is ex-finnish round.

              Casing is damn nice!

Does that mean the yellow paint is not original then?

Hard to say if original german yellow or not.Somekind of sandpapering or something anyway.Color is not originally matt-yellow like that.

So the shell is not for this casing correct?

Color is not original, there's paint in the dents made by the pulling machine and the drivingband are painted, which is non-regulation.
But there seems to be original paint below the drivingbands.

Like Jussi said, the shell is Flak 18 and does not belong on this case.

Check the mouth for cracks, Flak 41 cases are notorious for that.
If it's ok, and the price is reasonable, i would buy it anyway.

A whole bunch of proper Flak 41 HE shells have been found in germany this year, maybe you get lucky, and one will make it across the pond; you never know.

The shell casing has numerous cracks.

How rare are these cases in the US ?

Maybe somebody can repair the cracks ? Providied the price is right in the first place.
