Water found - what is it.

This comes out of the water (river).
38cm long, approx. 8-10cm diameter.

Sorry, only photo i have.

Any ideas what kind of ordnance it is/timeframe?

I could be wrong, but it looks like a British 3 in mortar. How big is it?
