Hello,


This weapon is a shortened verison of the PzB 38 with a cup on the end of the barrel that accepts rifle grenades. Did the Germnns swap out barrels and put a smoothe bore on this weapon or did they just shorten the existing barrel?

The weapon orginally used 7.92mm by 94mm AP rounds. I would like to get the tech data for this round and the grenade launching wood-tipped blank round.

Can anyone help?

I suspect the weapons you are refering to are the PzB39 & GrB39 series. The PzB38 was a short lived rifle using a complex auto ejecting single shot system.

The GrB39 was the modified version of the PzB39, which as you correctly suggest was given the addition of a grenade cup. I believe the barrels were simply cut down and Grenades were launched by way of a wood bulleted blank. The bipods were also extended to allow the rifle to be angled higher for projecting the grenades. The Buttstock was also fixed and reinforced.

The Grenade throwing blanks use a short plain wood bullet, I have only ever seen them with a steel case. It is still perfectly possible to fire standard PzB ammunition in the Grenade launching rifles, my poor hearing is proof!
