    KM - Shells

I dont know anything regarding these so any information would be greatly appreciated .

The large one seems to have a KriegsMarine marking?

The others also seems to have a eagle with an M but I am not sure thats a German marking?

The "warhead" (dont know what its called) has a russian eagle?

    Best regards

    Bjorn

        Hello Bjorn,

The big cartridge is a 12,7 cm Kriegsmarine cartridge. To be sure I have to know the diameter and the length of the cartridge.

The other cartridges are also all Kriegsmarine. They are early 3,7 cm cartridges and stamped with the early eagle. The shell is also Kriegsmarine and not Swedish. Paint is postwar.

I have added some pictures of a 3,7 cm patrone from my collection.

I hope this helpes a bit.

Picture of the shell. So you can see the difference between original paint and postwar paint.

I forgot to mention that the steel casing is a 40 mm shell. Not KM, but American I believe.

So any idea what type of ship used the large cartridge ?

Could any ship involved in Narvik have been using this type ?

                  Best regards

The big cartridge is for the german WW2 12,7 cm S.K. C/34 and/or 12,7 cm Abkomm Kanone L/35 (which was the sub caliber system for 38 cm S.K. C/34 and i think 40,6 cm S.K. C/34 as well.).

                    Smaller ones, german WW2 3,7 cm S.K. C/30.
The shell is the early model 3,7 cm Spgr. L/4,1, which had a self destructor that was ignited by the tracer.
Like Frans allready said, the paint is not original; the drivingbands should be unpainted, and the section below the drivingbands should be black, the redband however is correct.

As far I can see from the pictures this is not a live round, but deactivated.
Thanks for chiming in Zünder. Your knowledge can not be missed at this forum.

I just saw that this one has the self destruction hole for the tracer capped off with a cup.
This was only done when the shell was fitted with a KZ 40 fuze, which had a built in self destruction.

@Frans: dank je, ik doe m'n best.
