    My new Ciney purchases...

Yesterday at Ciney I bought these two pieces of German ammo.

The first one is a 37 mm grenate. My question is where this type of ammo is used for and by what? I wonder because of the yellow colour it perhaps has a specific purpose?

The second is a smaller one with a base width of 25 mm. If I am correct this one is from the Kriegsmarine because of the M in front of the eagle. The gunpowder bag is also included and dated Oktober 1944 with manufacturers code kby. Also this one has a yellow colour and with this one I wonder as well wherefor and by what this piece of ammo was used by.

Any help on identifying these pieces more accurately is very much appreciated!!!

    Best regards,
    Marcel

hello, well the smaller one is a 2cm for either a 2cm flak 30 or 38 would be magazine fed, this one looks like it used to have a yellow head also

the larger one is for like it says 3.7cm flak 18

if you google both or search this thread you should find out what you need

      Hello John,

I am not 100% sure but I think the small one is a 2 cm Marine Flak but I can't figure out if it's from an onboard Flak or a coastal Flak? Does the yellow colour have anything to do with either one of these?

The 3,7 cm Flak 18 is from what I could find either a Sprenggranate or a Panzergranate. Both identical pieces are on Google with these two different options. I assume it's a Sprenggranate but please correct me if I am wrong.

Are there perhaps books which are recommended to identify the many differences inbetween ammo? Would be very interesting to study more in this matter without asking Google for help because of the contradicting answers here and there.

      Best regards,
      Marcel

nice rounds - love the 3.7cm Flak piece. Is the casing steel and if so is it painted or lacquered that colour. Looks to be in super condition.

          Cheers

Thanks Mark. It is steel indeed but I am not experienced enough with paints to see whether it is painted or lacquered. It's in very fine condition indeed and the seller had around 8 of these exact same rounds, all in similar condition.

Time was indeed short Evilmike. Me too didn't had enough time to look at everything so next time in oktober I'll use a different strategy hehe

Yellow is used for HE (Sprenggranate). AP (Panzergranate) are usually black solid shells. Sorry pics are not the same size but both shells are 3,7cm.

The 2cm is just for Flak 30-38. it could also be used with Kwk30 but the case shows a KM stamp. It is HE tracer, it could be used for coastal or on board, the colour only means it is Sprengranate.
