    16" US Naval Shell

    Hey guys,
I just recently acquired this 16" US naval shell from a good friend of mine in a trade. I am going to use it as an outside display piece. I have no worries of it coming up missing as it weighs in just shy of a ton!

Anyone else have one of these? I thought I saw them for sale somewhere, but I can't recall where it was. This is the only one I have seen with the copper driving band intact.

Probably 25 years ago I remember seeing these for sale in an ad in the Shotgun News. My recollection is that they were located in the Long Beach, CA area, with an askin price of $500 each + you had to make shipping arrangements.

      Nice item.

BTW: I have always wanted one of these, so if you know of more for sale please let me know.

Here are some examples that I photographed at the Nimitz Museum in Texas a few years ago.

Thanks for the picture, Alan! These are really neat pieces, but one must have serious means to move it around. I am lucky enough to run an excavating company from the house with my shop being right next door so it's easy enough to bring the skidloader over and move it around.

Unfortunately I don't know of any more for sale at the moment. He did say something about Big Sky Imports having a couple, but I could not find a website or much info on them.
