    Kwk 40 container

    Hi folks,

Can I get your opinion on these containers please? I apologise for the pictures and I appreciate it's not that easy to tell. My concern was the 'freshness' of the markings on both. I'm not that familiar with such containers but maybe an expert can tell me.

They are not mine but I am thinking about buying them

    Many thanks in advance.

    Richard

That one looks well preserved. Here are some of mine:
Anyhow, the white writing on that lid looks a bit strange but could be good..

          Hi Richard
It is possible that the "7,5cm Kw.K.40" is a restoration stencil marking but it is still a very good container in excellent condition.

The stranger thing is the KwK42 box. It looks like it is marked with a white mark for AP and then it has a HE label inside. Also the box looks mint but then has no internal parts.

            Hi Paul and Carles,

Thanks for your comments, I'll be viewing these at the weekend so I can have a better look. The kwk 42 box ws my greater concern - just by how 'fresh' the box looks. None of my other containers look this good.

Paul - it sounds like you are saying the box markings and the label markings don't match up which rings alarm bells in my head. I'm not sure from the photos that the Kwk 42 box has the end carry ropes on either, although you can see where the internal shell supports used to be.

Hopefully a closer inspection will make my mind up, but right now I'm erring on the side of caution for the wooden box and maybe jsut go for the metal container.

            Cheers

            Richard

I like the box too. Sprgr both on label and box side.

                  New pictures

So I decided to buy both of these last weekend, some more pictures for you. The wooden case has been banished from the house at the moment as it's full of woodworm. Any ideas to treat this please apart from the usual off the shelf products?

                  Enjoy.

The metal container looks really good. A very nice addition to your collection.
Have you a picture of the top of the lid?

The woodworm is probably all old holes but I have been told one method to make sure there is no larvae is place it in a freezer for a while.

Hi Paul, there is a picture of the outside of the lid further down but if you mean the inside here you go......

I wish my freezer was big enough to put this into however I'm fairly sure I'd get some funny looks at home if I tried. I've treated the box and will keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. If no more 'frass' appears then I think it will be OK to bring into the warm.
