need some help getting a C/22 primer out.

I trying to get the C/22 primer out of my Flak 41 shell casing.

I had a machine shop here make a tool for me similar to the originals and it fits perfectly into the primer slots.
We tried everything to get the primer out but man is it stuck in there. Put the casing in a huge 4 arm lathe chuck to hold the casing and still we couldnt get the primer out. WD40'd it - still in there.

Which direction unscrews them - counter clock wise as usual? We tried both.

Any ideas how I can get it out - is there a secret to this? The primer is already starting to deform - that's how much pressure we've put on it.
    Cheers

It's a live primer, isnt it? Otherwise you could maybe heat it. Even loaded it is a possibility, but use hot water. Hope this helps! (Nice casing btw)

Forget it, if the primer got rusted between the threads, it is a like a welding. And if its still live be carefull, they are not a toy when burn.

And it unscrews to the left, like always.

Question: Why do you want to remove it ?

Primers are usually coated in a thick fat, almost parafinelike substance.
If you gently warm up the base (hot water will do),the fat melts and they usually come out a lot easier.
You're tool looks fine, so that's not the problem.

          Good luck

            Thanks for your replies.

How can one tell if this is a live primer? The casing was fired and Im fairly certain this is an the original primer to the casing.

I'd like to know, for obvious reasons, before I apply any heat to this.

            Thanks again for any help
            Cheers

              Thankyou Zunder,
I will try this tomorrow and see if it works.
Would you get a pot of boiled water and set the base in it?
How long would you leave it sit before trying to unscrew it?

              Cheers

If the primer is still live soak it from the inside with acetone for several days then WD-40 for 3 days... Be safe.....BILL

Only proper method is use liquid nitrogen.

I have removed even way more rusted primers with it.Extreme cold makes separate steel items shrink. And rust between casing and primer gives way.

We use nitrogen in metal industry every day to install large bearings, and sometimes few of my casings visit workplace...
