I think this may be a round for the French 50mm M1937 mortar.

Wow, great looking mortar & rounds Bill. I noticed there are differences in the tail fins, I guess this is a manfaucturer variation? I have also learned that the Germans had captured these mortars from The French and pressed them into service. Are there also German made 50MM mortar rounds for the Mle.37 or did they just use up what they captured?

Here is my French 50mm mortar model "L. Gr. Mle 37" that I picked up a while back. I became interested in these little mortars after seeing Bill Grist post photos of his (see above) several years ago. Not long after seeing Bill's, a WA Forum member in California found one "in the woodwork" via a newspaper "Militaria Wanted" ad that he runs on a regular basis; I ended up with it. The story is that the seller's father brought the mortar back from the ETO as a WWII war trophy. My mortar has been demilled to BATFE specs, so that it is no longer subject to the registration and transfer requirements of the National Firearms Act of 1934.

Here it is, with a P.08 for scale.

Photo of model designation markings and serial number.

Bill: If you don't mind me asking, what is the SN of your mortar? Anywhere close to the one I have?
