88mm steel case versus 88mm brass

Hi all,

I recently purchased this brass 88mm case at the War & Peace show in the UK last month. However I noticed it is a few centimetres shorter than the steel one. (one of the standard Finnish ones you find).

Is this normal? It does not look like the brass case has been cut down at the top as the edges are smooth and very straight.

Also I know these cases aren't rare but does anyone else have a brass 88mm? This is the only one I have ever seen apart from one other on here. I got it quite cheap including a shell and AZ23/28 'bakelite' fuse.

Do you reckon my one has been cut down a bit then? Although it does not look it maybe it has at some point.
