    Seemine

    Here is a model of a sea mine made from non-magnetic metal mounted on a wooden base (5 x 5-1/2 inches).

    The plaque reads: "Seemine am Ankertau / DM11 / M U W S / Lehrbereich Sperrwaffe"

    I am wondering if it is WW2 period. Perhaps someone out there can assist?

    All feedback will be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,

    John

      "DM" is german post WW2 code, meaing "Deutsches Model".

      So, not WW2.

        Thanks, Zuender!

        With your help and some research of my own my questions have been answered.

        DM11 = Deutsches Model (German Model) 11. Post WW2.

        M U W S = Mine and Undersea Warfare Systems

        This type of spherical, moored contact or remorely detonated mine weighed 550 kg. and entered service in 1968.

            .

            These mines are quite interesting. When they are routinely found in the Sea and gotten rid of by the RN Divers they say they are in fabulous condition to this day, including internally due to the ahead of its time metal technology they had. The two guys I know who have dealt with them said alot of the time the Fuses have been put together backwards so they do not work, done most likely by slave labour on purpose.
