Help with US grenade....?

Hello, all.....
I recently received this US grenade body, and I'm trying to put it together with the proper fuse/spoon/ring combination. I have a typical WWII-era fuse/spoon, (pictured) but it obviously won't fit, due to the protrusion on the top of the grenade, which does not seem to unscrew.
I have never seen one like this and I'm hoping that your collective expertise can shed some light on it, and ultimately provide me with the information I need.

I think that was an inserted peice to turn the grenade into a lighter. Some of the top of the lighter mechanism is missing. I had a similar one that wold not unscrew. Had to be drilled / retapped to get it out.

Based on your response, I opened the bottom of the grenade, and found it stuffed with cotton and a long wick, so your assessment is accurate.

Thanks very much for clearing that up for me.....Now all I need to do is find a way to get the lighter mechanism out...

Mine had the very same pressed in fitting. Absolutely would not unscrew! It was in tight! Mine was even more messed up than yours, so I felt removing it was the best option. It has to be drilled using a drill press. Start small and increase the bits in size till you get one size smaller than the grenade threads, Then it can be tapped to remove the debris from the original threads. Be careful and go slow. It will come out nice.

I just looked at mine, and it has the same body markings as yours, with the same exact pressed in fitting. I wonder if these were made from the same lot of grenades. Maybe a company made them from real grenades. Mine has the same exact color as well!

The fuze is at least accurate. EK is Eastman Kodak. It has the right spoon for the fuze. What is at the very bottom of this grenade?
