Did you try to put your 88 shell inside the container upside down? Warhead/grenade end goes inside first, casing base will stop to holders inside container. Also warhead should have nosecone adapter(haltekappe) inside the container.

It is a fitting used with armor piercing grenade, which is shorter than hi-explosive round. These are quite rare pieces.

I hope this photo helps. They are 7,5cm grenades, but the idea is same. Ruler shows level/edge of the case when fitted.
They were inserted in the tube in this order: First wooden fitting part, then metal support, then whole round(which comes as one part=shell and case, from factory)
Meaning is to fit round to tube snuggly, without room to move.

            Hope this helps,
            Ville

Ps. If you have no use for it, you can send it to me

Here is few pictures from my collection. It shows you that PzGr is SHORTER than Sprgr,so the wooden piece is needed to make it fit tight into carrier tube which is designed to accept both type rounds.

My cans came without any of those... I got the 'tubes' from Poland. How thick should the wooden disc be for the Kwk40 Pzgr. can? Should there also be a wood disc for the Hl/B rounds?

Fantastic condition tubes you got there.

I have few Kwk 40 tubes also, but their condition is BAD.

I only have Pak40 and 88 tubes in good condition.

They are spanish contract 1943. Seems a scrap dealer had 300 of them, some years ago, and used them to make a fence in his orchard. Someone saw them and bought most of them. I managed to choose 2 out of 20, in pretty good condition and price.

Thanks for the info. Did all the rounds have an adapter then?

I wonder where Finnish army have put these kwk40 tubes.

Its easy to find poor condition tubes, but finding good one is HARD from here where i live.

Yes,all round types had wooden+metallic adapter.

PzGr 40 and PzGr 40(W) used same adapters.

I recommend you to get this manual: Handbuch - Die Munition der Deutschen Geschutze und Werfer D435/1.You might find it in scanned format from internet.Original paper one is tough one to find and EXPENSIVE.

Well, it seems we get nice cans down here but you get nice ammo up there. All my ammo comes from Germany, Austria and Poland. I wish I could get the ammo free as some of you get it there (In Finland)...

I'll try to get that manual.
