Anti tank shell ?

I am assuming that this is an anti tank shell as it is solid. It weighs about 5.4 lbs. No markings other than 168 4. Can anyone advise as to nationality, gun type and time period? Thank you.

Bottom Two inches across.

Looks like it could be a 6 pdr or 57mm shell without its driving band and without the tracer attatchment.

Looks littlebit like 37mm Bofors AP round to me.

Is there thread on the bottom hole or not?

Hole is not threaded. Using my Made in China plastic caliper, it measured at 55mm wide.

Then I will stick with a 57mm (in US parlance) Anti tank shell, these were even mounted in aircraft towards the end of the war to tank busting with!

Ah the old stuff, where I learn alot....Just look's like solid shot to me mate, it has no ballistic nose cap/windshield from what I can see and the base well could be for the tracer. It's got no nose fuse-Time fuse so looks like direct role Anti Armour Kinetic. Missing the driving band. I will watch and learn.

I think Dom is on the right track here, the US 57 mm A.P.-T M70 used during WW2 , was 173 mm long,had a 20 mm wide drivingband, 1 crimp and a tracer cavity, just like the one in the picture.
