I have a question about this setup.
When and artillery crew was in action, would these shells come with the fuse already attached as they are in your example or would they insert the fuse just before firing? In other words, would the shells come to the site fully complete in these wooden cases?

German wartime manual: Handbuch - Die munition der deutschen geschutze und werfer D435/1 shows that germans had detonator on the grenade when fitted into this carrier.
