I saw a box like this in Kassel. I think it means that it's a Blank with wooden Projectile. Also called Manöverpatrone.Comment

EDIT: nope.. can´t find it, sorry guys! I must have stored it in a box.I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

i have blank german rounds with 1 to 4 rings but my interessts on this tread is not the reloaded rounds but moore on the box
if another collector have a similar 50 er box i would moore info on this cardboard boxes .

I believe the purpose of the wood projectile was to enable them to feed better than a regular crimped round. As an old reenactor, i've seen these used belted up in MG34/42's back in the early '80's.The tips are made of a light wood like balsa. There was a shredder attachment on the weapon at the end of the BBL. When fired, the projectile went down the BBL, into the shredder and became a plume of fine wood shards similar to turnings from a wood lathe.
All the smoke and noise and none of the death, destruction or messy cleanup!!

Hello,
Had one like that some years ago.
"Sorte 1" indicates the case has been reloaded once, also indicated by the single ring on the case.
I fired one of these platzpatronen recently and the wooden bullet is completely consumed before exiting the barrel. The platzpatronengerat (blank firing device) just reduces the barrel end size to increase recoil and enable semi auto or full auto working.

yes , the rifle grenades did use wood tips (for some of the types) . the anti- personel grenade came in a card board tube , with a wood tip bullet taped to the grenade !
