My grandfather was an ambulance driver in the French Army in WW1. After the war he and his family made a small living sewing buttons onto button cards. To suppliment their meager income they also made souvenir vases out of left over artillery shells. He said it was quite a cottage industry at the time. Both spent and live shells. Our family had several of different calibers that he had made and brought with him when he moved to America but they have disappeared over the years. I have the only one left. It isn't rare or special except to me. It is a 37-85 dated 9/17. Here are a couple of pics. Regards, Ron.
