    What is this large projectile?

Can anyone hel me a bit on this ammunition? I cannot find any markings. It is somewhat rusty. Almost 12" x 3". Thank you forum. Bill

Any ideas? I was told that it could be earlier than WW2. The fact that the shell end isn't tapered. Thanks, Bill

      look closely

Look closely for markings. Many Japanese Navy HE projectiles were painted red with a green band around the nose. Most Japanese projo's have markings.

Measurements across 3" or 76.2mm. Can we determine Ww1 or Ww2? Any ideas?

This is what I have found under the paint. An Ordnance bomb/flame. Some initials in capitals H.C.M. CO. There are some other numbers and writing I am trying to make out. Thanks

Appears to be a US Naval 3"/50 , used on destroyers, and other ships, for AAA, and whatever you wanted to aim it at. WW2 would be my guess.
