    Another german container KM

    Hi
here is another ww2 german container for 7 ammunitions.
Diameter of the holes is 62 mm.
Sizes of the container: 48 x 25 cm.
No more marking exepted the weight.
Please, who knows for what it is?
    Regards

    Great piece !

I;ve no idea what this one is for; the holes are much to wide and the container is to short for 3,7 cm S.K. C/30 rounds (these were stored in a similar container), 4 cm Flak 28 rounds are to small either.

The only suitable candidate i can come up with at the moment is: 5 cm Abkomm Kanone L/35 rounds, but that could be a very tight fit.

Have you looked around the outside of the rim ? You can often finds stamped in codes there.

The space between the holes is to smaal for the rim to hold the cartridge, when you put 2 in, they will touch, might be that the whole cartridge is completely inserted in the drum. A average rim is about 3-4 mm, times 2 so the spacing between the holes should be at least 8 mm. Nice find there.

      Hve you th enext inputs:

      - The weight of the container (18kg, minus this weight devided by 7 is the round weight)
      - A picture of the inside of the cover?

        ok
the weignt is about 10 kg, so 1.15 kg by stuck; it is to light for one ammunition about 5 cm diameter.
so, may be it is something else like detonators, zundladungen...for KM heavy artillery.

Maybe for the cartridges, used for the release of Depthchargers? I know they have a very small rim. Zunder, do you have the actual length and diameter of these cases, just a wild guess.

@Dutchknive: no, those containers are much shorter (about half the size of this one), and are clearly marked on the side: "Kartb.f. WBW".

You did make a good point though, the space between holes is too small for it to be meant for shellcases.
I just measured a booster charge for a german WBF depth charge, it's a brass cilinder, 55 mm wide and around 450 mm long.

assumed that these boosters were packed in a carbon wrapping or something like that, it woulde be a perfect fit.

OK, then we have a positive i.d.
Kriegsmarine used a flare called LG 60 (Leuchtgeschoss 60), these flares were about 40 cm long and 60 mm in diameter.

                  Great find !
