    WW1 Mystery Bomb

I bought this bomb a few years ago from a ww2 vet, a family member brought it home from WW1. It has his name tag on it (CAPT. S.J.S.), I also got a WW1 german smoke stick grenade with his name on it also. This bomb is 10 3/4 inches long, is made from black painted sheet metal that is crudely welded and spot welded. It is marked GW in an oval on one of the fins. Anyone have an idea what this piece of ordnance is? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link and info, I wish it were one of the grenade types, they look real nasty.
