    KwK40 case mouth

    Hello,

Probably a stupid question, but is it possible to crimp back a shell into the case mouth of a Kwk40 (for example).
I would like to store the complete round in its luftdichter canister, without having the shell falling out of the case.

    Thanks for advice.

Not a stupid question at all, and it would look great reattached to the case. The problem is finding a way to resize the neck which I think will be very problematic. How loose does the shell fit? Maybe there's something you can wrap around the shell to get it to fit snugly into the case.

Well, the case mouth is not straight, opens like a flower pot, if you see what I mean.
If a tool is needed to resize like a oversized lyman press, well I'm not out of the woods yet.

This isn't a complete solution but maybe a start to an idea that can be built upon. I am in the industrial Hydraulics business. There are hose crimping and swaging machines that could accomplish this. The problem is preventing ridges from the gaps betwen the dies. The resizing part is no problem, the biggest machines are 150 ton rams that swage 6" steel ferrules. I guess I could wrap something like a copper sheet around the neck(thinking out loud)or some other soft metal???

          Hello Pascal,

If the mouth isn't too open I used a rubber or tephlon hammer to reshape it back, with the help of a solid iron cilinder inside, making it go round and round. The problem is if the mouth is too open, as Kwk40 cases are usually soft steel, these might crack if you try to reshape. In that case they might need heating...

Do you have the those cilinders the rounds are supposed to lean on inside the canister?

            Hello Carles,

            I'll try that.
And yes, I have got two of those cylinders, one clearly marked for the 7,5 cm Patr.

Thanks to all for the ideas.
