This one i,ll get from a old farmer in south Sweden.
He claim that it is ammo from a flying fortress that landed in south Sweden under the war.

Is there any out there who could confirm that?

Hi Andy

RA stands for Remington Arms IMHO. As russians got ammo as well for the armor/ vehicle machine guns by Lend-Lease these .50 shells are often found here in Hungary. As I recall the other one is WRA - Winchester Repeating Arms (for 30-06 as well).

FYI projectile color (red?) means with tracer in my humble opinion. As the tracer material can be illegal according to your country's laws (as it is here) you may get rid off it (it is in the bottom of the "bullet", and can be easy seen if still there). If the color code is something else just see the drawing on the link http://www.biggerhammer.net/barrett/fas/

The tipp of the bullet seem to have been black.

black is AP I thought it was maroon aswell wich would suggest a tracer it could have came from a B17 enless its black stripe and redish tip I have only seen Russian ammo with those markings I would amagine AP-T but dont know

black is armour piercing. red is tracer as mentioned. also yellow is H.E. light/dark blue is practice/drill rounds, `eau-de-nile` which is a light green, is smoke generation, and brown is `low` explosive, ie propellant motors etc.

(thirteen years as a weapons tech in the air force finally paid off!!)

There were a large number of allied aircraft that force/crash landed in Sweden, some are quite well documented.

If you could tell us the location it may even be possible to narrow down the specific aircraft or at least provide a number of options.

Wow Rolfester you have good check on some Swedish books, do you speak Swedish also?

Well i went up at my attic for the book Nödlandning by Bo Widfelt / Rolph Wegman and find the answer.

Its a B-17G -1-VE Code LN-X 350/100.

It landed at 1944.02-20 15:30 at Toftshögs gård.
Its in Skåne outside Skurup (South Sweden)

The plane was scrapped 1945

Hi Andy,

No Swedish from me I'm afraid. I'm struggling to learn Latvian at the moment which is more than enough!

Just always had an interest in the US 8th Airforce and knew of some references about crashes in Sweden.

Glad you found the aircraft concerned. Always makes it more interesting to match artifacts with details.
