You box is very nice and very nice markings.

Concerning the double S, I don't think there is any link to the other thing.
Cartridges were manufactured without regarding who will use it.
I have seen some flare cartridges boxes (carboard boxes) with the same kind of markings.

But I'm maybe doing a mistake.

I have seen the same "SS" marking on a paper cardbox found in Norway,i dont think this is any Waffesn SS marking.i Thing its a part of the contract number and a aberevation for"Spar Stoff".I think spar stoff cardidges are cardidges made of woxed paper or steel.

Nice boxes, but why is the weight different on every box?
In every box were the same model of 500 flare cardridges.

Hi Marteen,

The weight depends on the type of cartridges.. even if the mumber is the same, just multiply 10 gr by 500 and you'll have the solution

Jou can find cardbox from Luftwaffe and heeres stamped SS.I still think its a abrevation for Spar stoff.I never seen any early produced boxes with brass or aluminium cardidges marked SS

Hello signal ammunition friends,

the shortening "SS" can be found on ALL types of ammunitionboxes and/or wooden transport boxes with the paperlabel. It has nothing to do with the "Waffen-SS" or with "Spar Stoffe", it is a part of the registration number. SS stands always at first and means "Sonderstufe". the meaning of the "Sonderstufe " is still unclear. It is used/ can be found in old documents from the correspondency between the military and the manufactures.
Also, in this registration / production number (Auftragsnummer) you can find the date from the timepoint when the order for production arrived. Its always (of course) earlier then the delivery-date printed on the box. Sometimes you can find aditionally a "L" for Luftwaffe" , the "Heer" for Army and very rare "M" for Marine.
