Very sorry that I do not know how many were made, but I have several, and occasionally see one at shows.

      Best regards,

Just thought you guys might enjoy seeing what was left of one of these fragmentation bombs after it was exploded by EOD specialists. The coil spring shown is from a pile of ordnance items that were recovered from a WWII-era practice bombing range at Eglin AFB in Florida in the early to mid-1990's. Per my EOD friend who participated in the controlled destruction of these items, the coil portion of this frag bomb survived because it was "at the bottom of the pile" and, therefore, was not disintegrated by the demolition charge as were the other items. I find this sample interesting as it helps to illustrate how these frag bombs were constructed.

I keep the coil portion of the frag bomb displayed on the wall in my garage workshop, next to some fragments from WWII-era HE bombs that were picked up by my EOD friend from the same bomb range at Eglin AFB, FL in the 1990's. The HE fragments are from bombs that exploded during the WWII-era training operations; they were not "duds" (as was the frag bomb and other ordnance that was disposed of via controlled explosion).
