weird color, dont know if its repainted, weighs about 12 lbs., about 11" in length. marked on side: 8, E 52 under that, AM under that, YR under that, gca? under that. a little over 70mm's at the base. Japanese? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I don't know the answer - but I have a shell that I think is virtually identical to yours. I have always wanted a positive ID on this item.
My shell has a "LOT" number marking on it (just above the driving band - visible in the photo), so I think it is U.S. issue. I wonder if it is for one of the Korean war-era 75mm recoilless rifles?Attached Files

The shape and driving band look like a standard WW1 - 75mm Artillery Round ...of course there were different fuzes (diff rounds) ..I'm posting a shot of my 75mm Gas Shell and you can see how mine has a different fuze. Even though they were known as French 75's ...many Countries produced the Shells even long after the War.
Your's was re painted.
