    J-Feder 504

    Hello Gents.

I want to show my J-Feder 504 21 day clock timer.
It is complete and all matching. I am pleased to have it in my collection.
I think they are hard to come by.
Comments, especially those regarding the functioning of this device
    are welcomed.
Also, any weblinks to learn more about it are welcomed.
    Thanks.

Heres mine ;-) As far on how to use it, just read the instructions in the top of the box. They translate like this:

1: Remove the Lid from the device
2: Turn the drum in direction of the arrow to load the clockwork spring
3: Set the Time by turning the Zt button in direction of the arrow
4: Put the Lid back in place and screw on TIGHT!
5: Remove the safety cap and insert detonator
6: Screw the device on the explosives
              7: Remove the "Blind" screw
8: Screw in the "Scharf" screw

              ARMED

If the screw can´t be screwed in all the way the device is damaged!

9: Turn the starting-ring to "Geht"

If you follow these instructions you will observe and hear that the clockwork is running. Have fun playing with it! These things are just a beautyful piece of ordnance, so complex for just such a simple task!

When I first began collecting at the age of about 12 years old (c. 1983) I frequented a local flea market looking for German military items.

For a year or so, a vendor had a J-Feder 504 w/ carrying case on his table for $20.00. Neither I nor my dad had any idea what it was, but we knew that it looked like some sort of German military item. I remember looking closely at it and the box on many occasions, trying to find some swastikas or other WWII German military markings. I could find none (though I'm sure it had some WaA's on it - at the tender age of 12 I did not know to look for such markings). Looking at the instructions and markings on the box shown in the photos in this thread you can see why I was confused - these things really don't have any obvious "military" looking markings, designations, stock numbers, etc. on them.

Anyway, $20.00 would have been everything I could come up with for my collecting budget at the time (and then some). Thus, I passed on the J-Feder 504 as I simply could not convince myself that it was "something WWII German" and worth digging deep to purchase. Eventually the J-Feder 504 was gone - presumably into the collection of some knowledgeable collector.

It was not until many years later (like the past 5 years or so) that I was surprised to learn the identity of this mystery item from my early collecting days.

                        very, very cool item.

I just got into german time units so this is wonderful to me. I found one for sale but it is not as complete as these two. Very, Very nice!!!

                          Thanks guys.

Thanks Dogtagman, for the translation of those instructions.
I will have to play with it, now that I have those.

Alan: That's an interesting story...Pity you didn't realize what it was, but your'e right about the lack of markings...
Bill and Van Hoth: Thanks for the compliments. I real like these items-
especially when you can find them complete...
This forum is so helpful !!!

                            It works !!!!

I have been "playing" with my J-feder, using the instruction from Dogtagman and other reference site on the internet, and it still works !!!
Now I want to blow something up !!! ( just kidding)
It's an interesting piece. It's nice to know it still works !! Like a Swiss
watch, it has a deliberate 'tic, tic...

                            Thanks again for the inputs.

good to hear that it´s still working, just one tip, don´t put too much tension on the spring, it may get damaged during time when on high tension.
