I don't understand quite well what you mean by M39 ??
This designation is only known to me as for the egg39 but it is never used for a Stielhandgrenade, or am I wrong ?!
Thanks for the good info and the links !!

    Thanks,

      M24 with hook

I looked through my handgrenade collection and happened to discover
      a hooked Stielhandgrenade !

      Here it is :

it has the "Vor Gebrauch Sprengkapsel einsetzen" inscription in a slightly different font.
I can also read the maker : RR ....1923 !
      So also very early.
The "hook" is welded in a different way here !

The stick is marked RR1939 - it came like this but I'm not quite sure if it's really matching the 1923 head ?!

Thanks again for all the good info received by now !!
      Cheers,

      Ferdinand

Ferdinand, if you happen to just "find" another let me know!.

The earlyest M24 I have is 1937 and NO hook , who else has grenades dated pre 37? we may be able to establish a time the hook was deleated from manufacture

A friend of mine has a real M24 from the Spanish Civil War dated 1936 and without hook. The usual practice here was remove the eagles stamps and cover with paint the inscription "Vor Gebrauch"... etc, for elude that somebody could know that Germans were helping Franco.... yes, a silly thing because everybody knew it, but you know politicians... I will try to get pics from that grenade and post them here.

                  Hello:
The M24 is supposed that it is shorter than the M39. It is not a clear thing this. All of us know the Stielhandgranate as M24, but in fact the M39 is supposed the model of the WWII and the M24 a between wars, (WWI-WWII), model or just a designation. All of you lucky owners of a belt hooked can take measures of it and compare them with the non-hooked cans. Tell us what you find.

                    dimensions of hooked/regular M24 heads

Hi Miguel & all the others who are interested.

I measured my "hooked" head and compared it to the "regular" M24s' heads.
The dimensions are the SAME on all of them.

75mm from top to the rim ! No difference at all !

Hello to you all and thank you for re-kindling this thread. I had assumed that this grenade was something other than "just another M24". Can we say that it is unusual to find this style , even if not rare?

                        rare and unusual

                        Hi kerryboo,

ohhh one can say that they are more than unusual, they are REAL RARE !

Thanks again for starting this thread - your "hooked" head looks slightly higher as far as I can estimate by the pictures ?!

                        Best regards,

                        Ferdinand
