    Small parachute from 1939

Does anyone know what this is. It reads

    Part No. 046208
    made by
    SWITLIK PARACHUTE
    & EQUIPMENT CO
    DATE OF MFG 1939

(the small A with c and 174 is just below the mark.) My Dad thought it might be for a flare shell or a pilot chute but did not remember. It is about 20 inches in diameter and has spring opening.

I posted it on the US militataia forum and found out they are still in business. I emailed them and their VP thinks it is for a star shell. Has anyone ever seen one? Here is his response.

Records going back that far are in storage (not computerized!). I do not think it is a pilot chute, but rather an instrument/flare type chute. With that number, it is not ours, so it is most likely a part we made for somebody else as a sub-Vendor. They included it into a larger assembly, ie, with an instrument or such. Regards, Michael C. DiltsVP
I moved it here since it may be ordnance related.

Uncle Bill tells me it is a pilot chute for a supply chute. Unc is this the supply chute?
