Well i never !!!! Collector 1 , on the cluster bomb page the one labelled M87?

I am ex royal engineers ( not bomb disposal) i had read up on some stuff about the german butterfly bomb of ww2 fame. When one of our towns were hit with them they proved so effective at closing it down that the event was actually banned from mention in the press in case they realised they were more effective than conventional bombing.
Does that picture mean that the design was actually copied and used in a modern delivery sytsem ??????

                  .

Missing are the M42, but most likely covered by tape in the photo. M42 has a yellow band and pre scored circular frag in the body on the inside. However M42 with smooth surface like M46 have been observed before including the wrong ribbon size on the wrong model. When M46 are found there will be M42 around as well as they go together in the projectile. What you can see occured here was that there were overalpping strikes of MLRS rocket and Artillery on the same target as there are M77 in the box. These have a very wide ribbon compared to M42,46.

The nasty one is the M85 which is an improved version which has a 15 second pyrotechnic delay self destruct and cocked striker, the self destruct doesnt always work and they are extreemly dangerous. It is what was being fired alot in the last war in iraq. Black in colour with stacked frag sleeve in rings and a fuse housing which is much larger.

                  Best,

                  Pete
